Tell Us Your Court Size & Access Window

If you manage a school hall, a rec centre or a club facility, you already know when the court has stopped performing. It has gone dull underfoot, the markings have faded, and you need it sorted before term starts.

Euro Coast Timber Floors is a family-owned team of sports flooring specialists working across the South Coast and Canberra, and we will tell you straight what your floor needs and when you will have it back.

Why Facilities Choose Euro Coast for Sports Flooring

When you choose Euro Coast, you are choosing the team who will be in your venue, on your timeline, telling you what your floor genuinely needs. We have worked on courts and halls from local school gyms through to the National Convention Centre ACT. Here is what that looks like in practice.

Second Generation, Family Owned Since 2018

Brodie learned this trade from his father, who is highly regarded in the field and still works alongside the team today. He has specialised in floor installation, sanding and finishing since 2010 and started Euro Coast Timber Floors in 2018. That is a lot of floors, and a lot of hard-won judgement about what a worn court actually needs.

Performance First, Not Showroom Shine

A court is equipment, not a display piece. We specify for traction, ball response, and a consistent feel right across the playing area. We choose sheen levels to keep glare off the surface rather than to look impressive in a photo. Your players will notice the difference long before anyone comments on how shiny it looks.

Sharp, Standards-Ready Line Marking

Layouts are confirmed with you before a single line goes down. Colours agreed, configuration signed off, edges cut clean. Whether you are running one code or five, basketball court line marking and every other sport on your surface comes back crisp and consistent.

Scopes Matched to Condition & Budget

We will tell you if a refurbishment will do the job, even when a full resand would be an easier sell. That is the same honest guidance we give every client, and it is the reason facilities come back to us year after year rather than shopping around each time.

Facility-Ready Compliance & Scheduling

SWMS, workers' compensation and public liability are all in order, and we meet working with children requirements where they apply. We plan around school terms, competition calendars and community bookings, because we know your venue is often the only one your users have.

Our Sports Flooring Services

Sports Floor Resurfacing & Refurbishment

A timber court refurbishment is the right call when the floor underneath is sound, but the coating has worn thin, the sheen has gone patchy, and the markings have faded. We prepare the existing surface mechanically, apply fresh court coating systems in the correct sequence, then refresh or replace the markings. On a structurally sound court, this is usually a two-day turnaround, which makes it the practical choice when your access window is tight.

Court Sanding & Recoating

When coating build-up has gone uneven across the floor, or the wear has pushed past what a refurbishment can address, a full resand is the reset your court needs. We take the floor back to bare timber, sand it level, then rebuild the coating system properly. Depending on the size and condition of your venue, basketball court sanding usually takes one to three weeks for the full scope, including line marking.

Court Line Marking

New layouts, updated configurations and multi-sport court layouts are all part of what we do. We agree colours and configuration with you before work starts, so there are no surprises at handover, and every code using your surface has lines they can read clearly. Marking goes down only once the final coat has properly cured.

New Timber Sports Floor Installation

Building a new gym or upgrading an existing one? We supply and install from the ground up, and we like to review plans early. Build-up layers and shock absorption requirements, board transitions, perimeter details and site access all get looked at before anything is ordered, so the flooring stage drops cleanly into your broader construction program.

Repairs & Board Replacement

Impact damage, loose sections and movement at joins or edges only get worse if you leave them. Beyond the way they affect how the floor plays, loose boards and unstable perimeters become a genuine safety issue in a venue full of moving bodies. We assess repairs at the site inspection and fold them into your quote.

Maintenance Plans & Annual Inspections

This is the service our facility clients value most. We keep a condition review on file for your venue, and we contact you toward the end of the year, so the work can be booked into the Christmas holidays before the new school year starts. We check high-wear zones, coating performance, traction and marking clarity across your school hall flooring or court, then tell you when the next refresh should land. You do not have to remember to call us.

Which Service Does Your Court Need?

Most facility managers come to us unsure whether they are looking at a quick refresh or a major project. Here is how to read your own floor before we even get there.

Recoat Refurbishment Full Re-sand & Reline
What the floor looks like Sheen has flattened, markings still clear Markings faded, coating tired and patchy in places Visible wear through the coating, scratches, uneven build-up
What it feels like underfoot Grip and ball response still good Traction feels inconsistent in the busy zones Noticeable variation across the floor, rough or slick patches
Typical downtime Around 1 day Around 2 days 1 to 3 weeks depending on size and condition
What you get back Refreshed sheen and more life out of the existing coating A new coating system and crisp, clean markings A complete reset: level surface, new coatings, full reline
How often you need it Every 1 to 2 years as part of a maintenance cycle Every 3 to 5 years depending on traffic Every 10 to 15 years, or when the floor calls for it

Sports We Mark & Surface

Most of the venues we work in run several of these across a single week, which is why we take the layout conversation seriously. Overlaying four or five codes on one surface and keeping every line readable takes planning, not just a steady hand.

Venues We Work In

School halls and gymnasiums make up the bulk of our sports work across the coast and in Canberra. Alongside those, we regularly look after sports and recreation centres, community halls, PCYC and club facilities, multi-purpose and performing arts spaces, and government and public sector venues.

If your building has a timber floor and people play on it, we can help. For homes, builds and commercial spaces outside the sporting world, the Euro Coast Timber Floors homepage covers our full range.

What Goes Wrong When Sports Floors Are Done Badly

We are not throwing stones here. This is simply what we see when we are called in to fix somebody else's work, and it is worth knowing before you appoint anyone.

  • Uneven sanding leaves dips, waves and swirl marks. On a court it changes how the ball comes off the floor, and it becomes a hazard for players moving at speed.
  • The wrong grit sequence locks scratches into the timber that no amount of extra coats will hide once the finish cures over them.
  • Rushed edge work leaves your perimeter a different tone to the rest of the floor, which is glaringly obvious the moment the gym lights come on.
  • Poor dust control matters more than people expect. Gym floor sanding without proper containment traps debris in the finish and spreads through the rest of your building.
  • The wrong coating for your traffic brings peeling, patchy sheen and a surface that loses grip long before it should.
  • Unchecked subfloor moisture means the floor moves and the coating fails after everyone has packed up and gone home.

Doing it properly the first time is almost always cheaper than fixing it afterwards.

What Facility Managers Say About Working With Us

Real feedback from the people who actually have to answer for the court: business managers, facility coordinators and club committees.

Recent Projects & Finished Courts

Our work includes the National Convention Centre ACT, RAAF Base Tindal, Pat Gallagher Netball Stadium in Alice Springs and Canberra Grammar for Construction Control. These are venues with real performance requirements and tight delivery windows, and they are a fair reflection of the standard we hold ourselves to.

Sports Flooring Across the South Coast & Canberra: What We Plan For

The Region We Cover

We are based in Batemans Bay, with our showroom on Cranbrook Road, and we look after venues along the coast between Narooma and Ulladulla as well as Canberra and surrounds. Schools, halls and sports centres through Moruya, Broulee and Mogo are all part of the regular run, and Canberra facilities are a consistent part of our year.

Larger projects further afield are always worth an enquiry. If you want the detail on basketball court resurfacing and court work based specifically out of our home town, our Batemans Bay sports floors page covers it.

Coastal Conditions & What They Do to Courts

Working on this stretch of coast is not the same as working in a metro venue. If you manage a building here, you will recognise every one of these.

  • Salt air accelerates coating breakdown, particularly in halls close to the water or with big openings that let the sea breeze straight through
  • Fine coastal sand and grit walked in at the entry doors acts like sandpaper underfoot and wears coatings and markings far faster than ordinary indoor traffic
  • Strong coastal light through north and east-facing glazing turns a sheen level that looked fine in a dim hall into a glare problem the moment the sun is up
  • Venues here run year-round with barely an off-season, so maintenance has to be planned ahead rather than squeezed in once a problem appears
  • The humidity swing between a coastal summer and winter affects cure times and how the boards behave over the life of the floor

Working Around Regional Venue Calendars

Out here, your hall is often the only one for a long way. It is the school gym on Tuesday, the netball courts on Thursday and the community event space on the weekend, with no fallback venue down the road. That makes downtime planning a much bigger deal than it is in a city.

That is why we build the schedule around your terms, your draw and your bookings rather than our own convenience. For Canberra work, travel and staging are part of the conversation from your first phone call, so the dates we give you are dates we can hold.

Why Local Knowledge Matters Here

Knowing which court coating systems stand up to salt air, how to pick sheen for a hall with a wall of northern glass, and what maintenance intervals really look like under regional traffic is not theory for us. It is the accumulated experience that shapes the recommendation you get at the end of a site inspection, and it is the reason our advice tends to hold up years later.

How a Sports Floor Project Runs With Euro Coast

Enquire

Email is easiest for us, but the phone or the enquiry form work just as well. If your builder or project team is running point, that is fine too. Send a rough court size and a couple of photos of the worn areas, and you will get a far more useful first response.

Site Inspection & Measure

We come out and properly assess the floor: coating wear, how it plays underfoot, any repairs needed, and the state of the existing markings. For a new build, we review your plans instead. Either way, you finish this step knowing what the floor needs.

Recommendation & Line Marking Plan

You get a practical recommendation on recoat, refurbishment or full resand, along with a marking plan covering sports, colours and layout. Nothing starts until you have signed that off.

Itemised Quote

We email an itemised quote, broken down so your business manager, committee or Department contact can see exactly what is included and what is not. No hidden surprises, and nothing that changes once the job is booked.

Booking & Site Readiness

We lock in dates, order your materials and hold them in our warehouse where needed, and send you a simple readiness checklist so your venue is prepared before we arrive.

Works, Handover & Aftercare

We follow the correct sequence of prep, basketball court sanding or refurbishment, coatings and marking, without cutting corners. At handover you get cleaning guidance, clear re-entry timing and the option to go onto a maintenance plan so the floor stays right between major works.

Timeframes & Re-Entry at a Glance

A refurbishment on a sound court is usually around two days. A full resand with coatings and line marking runs roughly one to three weeks depending on the size and condition of your venue. Access is restricted while coatings cure, and we confirm safe re-entry timing at the quote stage rather than at handover, so you can plan rosters and tell your users where they stand. We are typically booked six to eight weeks out, and the Christmas window fills early.

Book Your Court Assessment & Lock In Your Downtime Window

The Christmas holiday window fills well before term four is over. Getting in touch now means a confirmed booking, a scope you can put in front of your approvers, and a court ready for day one without the last-minute scramble. Email through a photo of your worst wear zone and a rough court size, and we will take it from there.

Frequently Asked Questions About Sports Flooring

  • How do we know if our court needs a recoat, a refurbishment or a full resand?

Look at the coating and the floor structure separately. A tired coating with faded markings over a sound floor points to a refurbishment. Deeper wear, uneven coating build-up or visible defects in the surface point to a full resand. Send us photos of your high-wear zones, and we can give you a starting recommendation before we even visit.

  • How long will the venue be out of action?

Around two days for most refurbishments on a sound floor, and roughly one to three weeks for a full resand with coatings and marking, depending on size and condition. We confirm access restrictions and safe re-entry timing up front, at quote stage, so you can plan rosters and tell your users when they are back in.

  • How much does basketball court resurfacing cost?

Basketball court resurfacing depends on court size, current condition, whether boards need repair, the coating system chosen, and how many sports you are marking. Any figure quoted without seeing your floor is a guess. We offer a free measure and quote, so you get an itemised price based on what your court actually needs and nothing changes once we start.

  • Can you change or add sports to our existing court line marking?

Yes, and it is a common request as venues take on new codes. We confirm what is currently marked and what you want going forward, then agree colours and layout before any work starts. Basketball court line marking, netball, futsal and multi-code overlays are all routine for us, and every line comes back clean and readable.

  • What causes a sports floor to feel slippery, and how do you fix it?

It usually comes down to the wrong coating for the traffic, rushed preparation, or grit and dust trapped in the finish. The fix is a court-suited coating over a properly prepared surface at a sheen level that suits your hall. Done right, you get grip back without ending up with a high-gloss floor that glares under the lights. We include aftercare guidance so it stays that way.

  • Can you schedule work around school terms and competition calendars?

Yes, and for facility work that is simply how we operate. Most school and venue projects land in the Christmas holidays, so mid-year enquiries get the better dates. For competition venues we plan around your draw and your regular user groups, and we confirm dates early enough for you to communicate them.

  • How often should a timber sports floor be maintained?

For most courts in regular use, an annual inspection with a recoat when it is due keeps the surface performing without needing anything major. A full re-sand is a much rarer event, typically every ten to fifteen years depending on traffic and whether the maintenance has been kept up. Our maintenance plan tracks that rhythm for you.

  • What is included in a sports floor maintenance plan?

We review the high-wear zones, check coating performance across the playing area, assess traction, and look at how clearly the markings are reading. You get a timing recommendation for the next refresh. We keep your schedule on file and contact you toward the end of the year so the work can go into the Christmas window, which means you are never the one chasing it.

  • Do you work on gym floors and multi-purpose halls as well as basketball courts?

Yes. School gyms, community halls, performing arts spaces and multi-use venues all follow the same assessment process as a dedicated court. Gym floor sanding and resurfacing works exactly the same way, and we adjust the marking scope to suit whatever sports and activities your space runs through the week.

  • Do you have the insurances and compliance documents our facility needs?

We carry public liability and workers' compensation cover, provide a SWMS for each scope, and meet working with children requirements where they apply. We confirm all current documentation with you before work begins.
